New Tab ist is a small, independent Chrome extension for people who run their work and life in Todoist. It starts from a simple observation: Todoist is often one tab too far away. Now every new tab opens on the list, next to a clock, a focus timer and a few quiet widgets.
Why it exists
A task manager only helps if you look at it. A pinned Todoist tab gets lost among thirty others; a toolbar button is easy to forget to click. The new tab page is the one place most people look at dozens of times a day, and by default it shows things they do not need. New Tab ist puts Todoist there.
What we believe
- Your Todoist, not a copy. The extension reads and changes your tasks directly in Todoist. No second list to keep up to date, and your tasks never go through our server.
- Private by default. You sign in on todoist.com. The extension never sees your password or your tasks, and has no ads, analytics or tracking. Read the privacy policy.
- Calm over clever. A plain, readable tab that gets you back to work, with widgets you choose rather than a feed.
- A fair price. A small monthly or yearly price, or a single payment for lifetime access with every future update.
How it works
New Tab ist replaces Chrome's New Tab page with a page stored inside the extension. That page shows your Todoist lists next to a clock, a focus timer and your widgets. The extension reads them with the official Todoist API, after you connect Todoist once on todoist.com: everything you do there (adding, completing, rescheduling tasks) happens directly in your Todoist account. You can also switch to the Todoist embed, which shows the full Todoist app.
Your widget settings, notes and focus history are saved in Chrome's own storage, synced with your Chrome profile. The only things the extension sends to our server are what it needs to check your access: your license code or, for the free trial, your connected Todoist account, plus a random device identifier. Your tasks never go through it. Details are in the privacy policy.
